What is berberine?

Berberine is a plant alkaloid derived from the barberry shrub. This substance is widely used in various industries, including sports and health. It has long been used and recommended for those struggling with obesity, diabetes, and liver problems.

Berberine was widely used, for example, in traditional Chinese medicine. It was in China that barberry was first recognized as a plant with many properties that could be used to support health. Since the Middle Ages, infusions were prepared from its leaves, which could be used to improve liver health and treat biliary tract diseases. While the plant is primarily known for these properties, its other benefits are also worth mentioning – it is also cultivated for its aesthetic and functional benefits. Barberry fruit can be used to make jams and juices.

Properties of berberine

People struggling with overweight or obesity may consider using berberine. Berberine is considered a very effective "fat burner," which effectively works accelerates the rate of fat burning. The positive properties of berberine do not end there, of course.

It also has a beneficial effect on the circulatory system. It can help lower cholesterol and combat depression. People struggling with type B diabetes will also appreciate its benefits, as it reduces insulin resistance and limits sugar production.

The action of berberine in this aspect will be appreciated not only by people with a newly diagnosed disease, but also by those who have been struggling with this problem for years and in whom previous actions have not led to achieving the correct blood glucose level.

Berberine also has an effect on the human immune system – improves the functioning of the immune system in the fight against viruses and bacteria, e.g. when fighting the flu or cold. Vitamin C, E, rutin, fiber and carotenoids are just some of the health-important substances found in this plant.
